Let me introduce precious little Mikai Jubilee. She is the latest addition to our growing family so it's needless to say you will be seeing more of her in the future. This little girl will be my baby's older cousin in about 5 months. =) For those of you who know me know that I absolutely love babies and this little one is no exception. She has just been added to my favorites list. I really do love all 8 pounds of her! Now on to some pictures.......

My favorite make up artist asked me to snap some shots of her beautiful children. Over the years I have seen her family grow and grow. I was blessed to document this special time in their lives with their new edition. Next time we will have to include Daddy in the pictures. Paulina is an amazing make up artist who has worked on fashion run way's, T.V. shows, and movies. Hello everyone! Meet baby Aubrey. She is a beautiful little bundle of joy. She is so small I was scared to hold her but I couldn't resist because I love babies, not to mention I fell in love with her the minute I saw her. I had the pleasure documenting Aubrey during her first week of life. Her parents are overjoyed with her and who could blame them. It is such a blessing to see a papa holding and loving on his first baby. Here are just a few of my favorites.

It's been forever and a day since I've blogged. The funny thing is, I have so much to blog about but no time to do it. I am not complaining in any way, I am thankful for this busy season of my life and I only have God to thank. My photography business is growing and I am appreciative of everyone who has trusted me to document their lives.

On to the pictures..........

Here are the beautiful duo Natalie and Genesis. I had a great time hanging out with both of them on this day. Genesis was the perfect little model which always makes my day. Her enthusiasm and excitement was evident with every push of my shutter. I look forward to more portrait sessions with her. =) The rainy, cloudy weather created beautiful light and here is the proof.

As I was editing I decided to split up their pictures and make 2 slideshows. The first, a mother daughter SLIDESHOW and the second SLIDESHOW was especially made for little Genesis who will turn 6 in a few weeks.

What I've been eating

It's been about a couple of weeks since I've blogged so I thought I would share what I've been eating. I love to eat so I take pictures of my food pretty often. =)

This was my first time baking Fococcia bread. It' turned out sooo yummy especially after it was dipped in balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Oh and you can't forget the salt and pepper.

Now this picture below is my beautiful and amazing personal chef aka my grandmother with my little cousin Justin. We were all eating at my grandmothers house yesterday and he surprised us with a little visit. He and his wife who happens to be pregnant (yay!!) just moved back from North Carolina. We are all very excited to have a new baby in our family. He is a marine and will now be stationed in California. His older brother Brandon is currently serving in Afghanistan and will be coming home next month. Brandon will then be stationed in Hawaii. (Woo Hoo!!) Our family is already planning a trip to visit him in Hawaii.

This last picture was taken a couple of Sunday's ago. I took my 4 little monsters to church with me. After church I took them shopping to sephora. Well I shopped while they sat in the tall make-up chairs eating lollipops. I must say it was a challenge walking with 4 kids in a parking lot. On our way home we grabbed some Mcdonalds and had a picnic out in the yard. I actually had chicken nuggets for lunch. I'm still not sure how I feel about that. =) Later that day I went to the market by myself and I couldn't find my car in the parking lot. I was standing right next to my car staring right at it wondering where my car was. Well the reason why I didn't recognize my car was because I had 3 car seats in the backseat. I felt pretty dumb but I made myself laugh.

I wasn't sure what to title this post. I was going in the "I love L.A." direction but then I thought that was kind of lame. (I do love L.A.) I also thought about "Freeways" but that didn't have a cool ring to it and I know that I have blog readers that are not in this country and might not know what a freeway is. =) Hi Nadia! So, I simply went with Thursday. Why? because today is Thursday and Thursday's are well on their way to becoming my favorite day of the week. (Sorry, Saturday) The reason I wanted to blog about L.A. and freeways is because as I was driving home today I realized that I was on a total of 8 different freeways. Only in Los Angeles is that possible in an 8 hour period and I was on several of those freeways 2 or 3 times. First I took the 5 North to the 2 North to the 134 west. Then in the afternoon I got on the 134 East to the 210 East to the 605 South to the 60 East got off the freeway then back on the 710 North back to the 60 West. So with that I thought I would post some pictures of Los Angeles.

Now on to the reason that Thursday's are becoming my favorite day of the week.....here it is....My grandmother cooks whatever I want on Thursday's. (insert cheesy smile here) She is an amazing cook and I learned everything I know from her. I hope to be half as good a cook as she is someday. This little tradition of ours started about 6 weeks ago. Thursdays are now the day that my family comes together to laugh, eat, watch spanish television and eat some more. I have to admit that I am totally spoiled by her cooking and I am loving every minute of it. Here is a picture that I took with my iPhone.

Today was a long day. I've been up since 3:02 a.m. I'm usually home by 2:45 p.m. but since I had something to do after work I didn't get home till after 3:30. Needless to say, I was tired. I took a nap, watched a movie, snacked on mexican candy and then I found myself sitting here with nothing to do. I was actually bored. I didn't feel like doing anything but I knew that I needed to do something. Idleness is not good. I guess you can say that I was feeling slothful. So I forced myself to get up. I should've gone for a walk but I didn't feel like getting dressed and leaving the house besides my hair was way to frizzy and It was too hot to wear a hat. I did the next best thing I got on my iMac and started to go through my hard drive once again. I was pleasantly surprised to come across this set. I took pictures for a "7 deadly sins" concept shoot back in November. Rebekka who represented SLOTH was by far one of my favorites of the day. I know that these pictures are all very similar (they wanted a specific look and angle) but I think they are each unique in their own special way. I love her hair!

Missing Smokey

I've never been much of an animal lover. Growing up my little brother was the one with all the pets. He had snakes, mice, dogs, rabbits, ducks and I'm sure there are more animals that I can't remember. A few months ago my brother who also happens to be my next door neighbor brought home this dog by the name of Smokey (check out his eyes). I immediately liked the dog because he was extremely calm. Unfortunately, they weren't able to keep him but he did go to a loving home. I have always thought that people that take pictures of animals are kind of weird but I couldn't resist trying out my new 50mm lens on him. I'm so glad I did because now my nephews will have a picture of their first dog.

This little girl was born on my wedding day, she is the daughter of two amazing people. It's so funny how she has a little of both of their personalities and some of her very own. This is Joseph on this bike with training wheels. I was riding my bike trying to get a picture of him with my iPhone. I think I did o.k. considering the situation. Here I go again playing catch up. It's been a while since I've posted. I am still going strong shooting a picture a day on flickr. =) It's getting harder and harder to be creative. There have been days where I have literally walked around my house looking for things to photograph.

Last Sunday Benny and I took pictures at this beautiful couples 60th anniversary celebration.

I know that I've been posting a lot of personal pictures. I do have some events coming up so the pictures will soon follow. I figure this is just a way for you to get to know me a little more and at the same time I can create a habit of blogging.
This is a picture of one of my favorite things to eat (there is a list). It's become a habit, routine or tradition in our home. My hubby knows that whenever we rent a movie we also buy chips & chile. They are from El Siete Mares. I've been eating these chips since I was a kid. They never sold the chips separately until I cam along-true story. =) I've been messing around with off camera flash and I absolutely love it. If anyone out there is looking for an easy way to get your flash off of your camera you have to buy a ST-E2 from Canon.

Day 13 of 365. Yay! I can't believe that I have been consistent with something for 13 days straight. That has to be a record. I think I deserve some crab legs or lobster. =)

It was getting late last night and I still didn't have my picture for the day. I was looking around for something to photograph and there it was on my left hand. I should look around more often because I absolutely love this picture. I love what it represents and how it makes me feel when I look at it. I am seriously going to blow this picture up and hang it on a wall. My wedding band is beautiful to me, it has 7 little diamonds.......I remember the day I picked it out the girl at the jewelry store kept trying to get me to buy bigger diamonds. I'm sure that it was mostly because of commission but she also kept saying that it was too plain and simple. Well being the simple plain Jane that I am I knew what I wanted. I wanted 7 diamonds and I knew that I wanted them to be really small. I just wanted my band to be pretty and simple. I already had a big fat rock as my engagement ring so I wanted this to compliment it and I think it does just that. The 7 diamonds represent God's number of perfection. I met my husband in 07, truly God's perfection and perfect timing. I know that I was created to compliment him the way my ring compliments the other.

This is my day 11 of 365. I'm really enjoying this project. I have always seen photography as a way of documenting my life. So this is my day 5 picture. I met a very nice man by the name of David yesterday. As I was walking to buy my lunch something inside me pulled me back to look his way. As soon as I said hello he responded with a smile and a nod. Very gentlemen like. He was extremely polite and very respectful. I wish most people I encountered out in public were like him. We ended up having a great conversation. We talked about photography, traveling, abandoned babies and orphans in Romania, and around the world. I told him about my 365 project and asked if I could take his picture and post it on the web. He once again responded with a smile, a nod and a yes. I have to say that meeting David was one of the highlights of my day. I have one more but I think I will blog about that another day.

I'm sorry but I don't have much to say about this picture. Well I guess I do, It's a trip. I got lucky I guess. It's totally different than anything that I have ever taken before but I think that's a good thing. Benny and I were driving today and I saw these two guys hanging out on top of a statue playing these flute like instruments. I just had to stop to take a picture. I was a little timid about interrupting their musical concert to nature but I did it. I had to.....I needed a cool picture for day three of my 365 project.

So I asked and the first thing they asked me was "do you have a flickr account?" All I could do was smile.

Oh by the way, I was not in East Los Angeles but I'm sure you already knew that if your from L.A.

365 Project

Hello out there and happy new year. I don't make resolutions but this year I have decided to challenge myself to a 365 project. I will be taking a picture a day and posting it to a flickr group that I belong to. 2 pictures down and 363 to go. So far so good. I'm quite proud of myself. =) I say that because when It comes to consistency well lets just say that I'm not very consistent. Take this blog for example, I am a horrible blogger. I take pictures all the time but when it comes to posting them and writing a little something about the pictures I just freeze. Like brain freeze and I can't think of anything to say. So I will do my best to post more pictures even if I don't write a story or a book to tell about my pictures. After all, this is my picture blog and I am using this as a means to document my life.

This is my tio Augie. I love my tio. It was just about an hour ago that he was trying to convince me to have a babies-lots of them and soon. He has 8 of his own. =) I come from a big mexican family.

I first met Brittani about 5 years ago. I was in a small women's support group at our church and this young beautiful teenage girl was sharing how that very same day God had given her the courage to take a stand and walk out of the abortion clinic that was soon to take the life of her unborn child. I was blown away at the courage, strength and maturity that this young girl possessed. I only wish I was that strong at her age. She was and still is a true inspiration not only to me but to those that know her. God has totally blessed her obedience. She is a single mother raising her beautiful little girl, she is attending USC and as she puts it she's an emcee. Let me tell you that Brittani is beyond talented. She is a bonafide lyrical genious. A hip hop rapper for Jesus.
It's been amazing to see how the Lord has transformed her and how He is using her life and her abilities to draw people closer to Him. Brittani, It was a pleasure documenting this stage in your life. I can't wait to see where the Lord takes you. Love you girly! p.s. It was fun almost getting arrested for tagging and trespassing with you that day. =) (A police officer thought that my camera (from a distance) was a spray can--LOL!! but we were trespassing.)

This is going to be a long post. I think my longest post ever. I couldn't help myself I actually wanted to post more.

I'm not sure how to start this post. I guess I should start by saying that I don't usually take Quinceañera and Sweet 16 pictures but when it comes to family, anything goes. I was just remembering how in April 2007 my cousin Rick took a chance on me and let me shoot his wedding. It was my very first wedding with my new camera. I was so nervous, excited and even sick at one point. He gave me my start and for that I am forever grateful. His daughters, Vivian & Dalia celebrated their 15th and 16th birthdays together. I am honored they asked me to document their special day.

Photography School

As some of you may know I'm attending photography school. I will probably be attending this school for the rest of my life. I really enjoy learning the in's and out's of photography. I am currently taking a studio lighting class. I am mostly taking it to learn all I can about lighting. Every other week my class assignment is to bring in models to shoot. I have to meter, check my lighting and pose my models. It's not easy. I'm really liking the lighting part but not the posing. It's proven to be a challenge for me. I can't help but laugh as I type this because I was just reminded of this hilarious website. Sorry I got distracted. But this is what I think of when I think about studio portraits. They are not my favorite but I feel it's vital aspect of photography I must learn. So on to the pictures. I have to thank my close friend Jessica who let me borrow her adorable and lively daughters for the evening. They made my job that night so much easier.

These were someone else's models for the evening. We get to shoot other peoples models if time permits. It can be interesting sometimes.

This is Tristan and his mommy. One of my classmates cute little boy and wife.

Here are my models. Viviana & Tiffany . This was one of the first pictures that I took. They look nice and quiet. Huh! wait till you see the rest. They were just getting warmed up.

Before I go on I have to say that I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE CHEESY BACKGROUNDS that my classmates set up that night. I promise if you hire me that I will never make you take pictures with fake rocks. Unless you want me too. LOL!!! I still think Viviana and Tiffany pulled it off. They look cute no matter what cheesy set I put them on.

The girls loosened up and started having fun. At one point Tiffany was even assisting one of the other photographers.

Telemundo

This is my friend Paulina-the make-up artist. That's what I call her cause that's what she is. She is not only talented but gifted at what she does. Her resume has definitely grown in the past few months. She is doing make-up for fashion shows, movies, and now T.V. She can now add that she has been a Telemundo make-up consultant. A few weeks ago Telemundo was running a special on how women view themselves and the extremes they go to, to look their very best. The shows focused on plastic surgury, eating disorders, and self image. For the last show Paulina was asked to show the Telemundo audience how make-up can temporarily fix specific flaws we women have. Being the flawed women that I am she asked me to be one of her models. =) So yeah! I was on T.V. but not just on any channel I was on Telemundo. LOL!!! every East L.A. girls dream. I am joking of course, I've never even watched Telemundo.

It was surreal watching myself on T.V. Benny and I had to go over to my brother's house to watch it on his television since we don't have one. (Yes, me, no T.V. that's a whole other blog post.) Like I was saying it was pretty surreal. We had a little "watch Frances on T.V." get together. My mom even came over to watch her daughter get her flaws fixed. I think I was more excited about watching my nephews run around acting crazy excited to see their tia Frances on T.V. Enough about me on to the pictures...........

Pomona Arts Colony Photo Walk

A few weeks ago Benny and I participated in a photo walk. We had never done anything like this but there we were in the Pomona Arts Colony, walking and taking pictures along with nearly 100 other photographers. What is a photo walk? Well it's a bunch of photographers walking around with their expensive equipment taking pictures of whatever is in sight. Some of the teacher's at my school have organized a few walks already so we plan to tag along whenever possible. Before I go on and show you some pictures I have to say that street photography is really not my thing so this was a challenge for me but it was fun and I can't wait to do it again. Here are a few of my favorites

This is the picture that I was taking as I had my body on the ground of an alley

As I was on the ground I yelled out to my husband " I wish I had a fisheye lens!" a photographer that was walking by came over and handed me his 16-35L lens. It wasn't a fisheye, it was even better than a fisheye. Thanks John! So I got both of these shots with his lens.

I actually like it from this angle a little more than from the ground.

Exciting News And An Addition to the family

So my husband brought it to my attention the other day that I have not blogged this month. So this is for you my love. First off let me start by saying "Nooo, I'm not pregnant". I read my blog title and realized that it sounded like I was making a preggo announcement. LOL!!! Someday but not today.

So after my last blog post the beautiful blue eyed ROCK ministries administrator Barbara contacted me to ask if they could use my baby foot picture in their 2010 calendar. I think that is pretty exciting. My pictures in print. Wow!!! This will actually be the second time that they use my pictures and for that I am truly grateful to God. So here is the picture they requested in color.

And now welcome my new 85mm 1.8 lens. I've decided to try shooting with prime lenses. It's been a challenge not to zoom in and out but I hope that the result will be sharp and crisp images. Someday I will upgrade to the L's but I'm happy with this for now.

Missing Romania

I'm missing Romania again. I miss it often and when I do I comfort myself by looking at pictures. The other night I was going through my external hard drive and I came across some pictures of little baby Larisa. She became an orphan when her mom died giving birth to her. It's a very sad story but I know that God has a plan for this little girl and I know that because she was blessed to be in the care of ROCK ministries. I often wonder what kind of homes and families these babies will end up with and all I can do is pray and trust that God is taking care of them. It's a hard thing to do when I am so many miles away and have no control, but for now that is all I can do. I have to be grateful for the time that God has allowed me to be with these precious babies and look forward to a day when I can hold and squeeze them again.

Bath time is one of my favorite times of the day when in Romania. We get to bathe the babies, dress them and then feed them their breakfast as we hold them in our arms. You see the ROCK staff is not allowed to stay over night in the hospital. Which means that many times the babies are not held or changed through out the night. It really is heart breaking to know that these babies are all alone.

This is Jessica, I met her on my last trip two years ago. She has now become one of my closest friends. She too fell in love with the babies. I am so glad that I have close friends that not only have a heart for Romania but have also shared the experience with me. Jessica, I am truly thankful to God for bringing you into my life for such a time as this. I love you sora!!! (sora means sister in Romania)

This past weekend I spent a few hours in downtown L.A. shooting Johanna, Jasmine, Jayden, and Jaylee. You might remember Jaylee's portrait session from last December. If not check it out. She and her cousin are growing so fast. They are my favorite 3 year olds. They are so bright and funny they totally entertain me whenever I spend time with them which is pretty often.

Kusen Family

About a month ago Benny and I spent an awesome morning with the Kusen family in Manhattan Beach. As you will see they have two adorable little girls. It's been a while since I've taken family portraits so I'm glad they asked me to do it.

We had a great time with you all and it truly was a delight to shoot your family. We wish the girls the best as they both celebrate their birthdays.

Jenniefer & Jonathan-Engaged

Hi everyone! Yes, I know it's been a while since I've posted anything. I have a few things that I have in the works. A family shoot and a wedding coming very soon.

We were celebrating this mutual friend's b-day and Jenniefer sang for her. I will always remember the sound of her angelic voice. Wedding-Amy & Samuel

Amy & Samuel had a beautiful outdoor wedding surrounded by loving and caring family and friends. Funny story...I just happened to know Amy's sister and father and I had no idea that they were related to Amy--duh!!! It was a nice surprise to say the least. The day turned out great from the ceremony to the dancing at the reception. Everyone had a blast and at the end of the day I wanted to stay and dance but my feet couldn't take it. =( I was truly blessed to be a part of Amy and Samuel's day.

Next month will be 2 years since I've been in Romania. I miss it more and more each day. The last time I was there I took over 1700 pictures. Every once in a while I go into my external hard drive and visit Romania through my images. Tonight was one of those nights. I picked a few to share with you and I ran a few actions on them.

The Grand Canyon

Benny and I celebrated our 1st year anniversary a few weeks ago. We took a trip to the Grand Canyon. We had never been there so we thought it would be fun to experience it together. I must say that I was blown away. We of course, took our cameras to document our trip so enjoy a few of my favorites.

Our first night we stayed in Kingman. This is their old county court house.

We decided to take the back way to the west side of the Grand Canyon. BIG MISTAKE!
This sign was right and so wrong. Yes, it was rough. This was by far one of the bumpiest (is that a word?) roads that I've ever been on and it wasn't for 10 miles it was more like 70 or 90 miles.

The next day we found a Calvary Chapel in Williams, AZ. It is a small congregation and would you believe that they have parking problems too?

This time we went to the Grand Canyon National Park. The drive is absolutely beautiful. Big white fluffy clouds, blue skies and tall green trees everywhere.

Ta da...the Grand Canyon. Lets all remember that I love to take pictures of people and that I am not a landscape photographer. =)

Photography School

This is my very first post on my new blog. I hope you like the changes. Earlier this year I began attending photography school and I absolutely love my classes and most of my teachers. From time to time I will be posting some of my class work. I am truly aspiring to make my subjects/clients look as good as the models that come in every week. I am definitely learning that it's all about lighting and some day soon I wish to have the same lighting set up as the studio at my school. I'm even thinking about turning my garage into a studio.
